Bathroom: Before and After
The Bathroom also received a major overhaul! Believe it or not, I think demoing the bathroom was harder than the whole kitchen (or at least more stressful I guess). What I thought was going to be a simple remodel became a full gut job! The "before" bathroom had, what I thought was an acrylic tub/shower liner that went over an existing cast iron tub. Well, that's what I thought at least. Once we started trying to take the "liner" out, we realized it wasn't a simple acrylic liner, but a full fiberglass tub system. There wasn't an old cast iron tub underneath, there was NOTHING underneath! Once we took the system out we were left with studs and a subfloor! In addition to that big job, was taking up the tile! There was SO much sledgehammering going on that day my arms were numb and my ears were ringing, but we got it up!
The contractors noticed some weak joists and a few rotten places in the subfloor so we had to have all of that repaired. We also had to buy a new bathtub, something I didn't think would be an expense! Here are some pictures of "before" and "in progress"
Before:
Demo Day in the Bathroom!
Again, there was a lot of prep work, electrical and drywall that stalled our bathroom progress for a few weeks. But just like the kitchen, once the drywall was up, things sped along at full speed!
Here are a few progress pictures!
Bathtub in, drywall up!
Tile tub surround started to go in after painting was done:
Then the marble mosaic floor! STUNNING!
Me being a contortionist to put in the faucet- I had to put my legs up and over the tub! Not comfortable!
In the end, the bathroom is one of my favorite transformations in the house. Such a small room but such a huge impact!
LOOOVE The dark grout in the subway tile shower surround!
Marble top vanity is so lovely! And you can see in the background we put in a lovely marble threshold between the 2 floors and I love it! The medicine cabinet was another DIY project, we repurposed the old medicine cabinet to save money.
